Mogadishu (Somalistandard) – A Somali man has been arrested by Turkish police after a Turkish Airlines flight from  Istanbul to Mogadishu had to make an emergency landing in Antalya on Saturday.

Witnesses say that the unidentified man had been heavily drinking and became aggressive and  disruptive during the flight.

He got into a physical altercation with flight attendants and started throwing objects around the  cabin.

The flight crew attempted to calm him down but were unsuccessful, leading to the decision to divert  the Boeing 737-8-MAX flight that was passing over Egypt at the time and make an emergency  landing.

Upon landing, the man was taken into police custody and is expected to face charges related to  disorderly conduct and endangering the safety of others.

The incident caused a delay for the passengers, who were visibly shaken.

Turkish Airlines has apologized for the inconvenience and offered alternative travel arrangements to  the affected passengers.

This is not the first time that excessive drinking by a passenger has caused a disturbance on a flight,  and airlines have implemented various measures to address this issue, such as limiting alcohol  consumption and refusing to serve intoxicated passengers.
