(Somalistandard) – Frank Lampard is set to return to Chelsea Football Club as interim manager until the end of the season, according to sources close to the club. Lampard, who previously managed the club from July 2019 to January 2021, will be taking over from Bruno Saltor, who was appointed as temporary manager following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.
Lampard was dismissed by Everton in January 2022, after just under a year in charge. He was in attendance at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday as Chelsea drew 0-0 with Liverpool under Saltor’s management. The club is currently 11th in the Premier League, 11 points behind the top four, despite having spent over £550m on new players this season.
In his previous managerial spell at Chelsea, Lampard led the team to the FA Cup final in his first season in charge, having joined from Derby County. He guided the club to 44 wins from 84 matches, but picked up five defeats in his last eight league games.
Lampard, who is the club’s record goalscorer, will be tasked with turning the team’s fortunes around and securing a top-four finish in the Premier League, as well as navigating a difficult Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
The 44-year-old will be hoping to make a positive impact during his second spell at the club, and potentially secure a permanent managerial position in the future.
