Mogadishu, Somalia (Somalistandard) – Local officials in the Gedo region have denied landing permission for a plane carrying food aid that  was sent by Jubaland’s administration to assist people affected by recent floods in the Bardhere  district in the region on Thursday.

Ahmed Madobe, the regional president of Jubaland, had appointed a committee to address the  situation in Bardhere and provide immediate relief to those affected by the floods.

However, reports indicate that the aid plane was refused permission to land in Bardhere district,  worsening the already dire humanitarian situation in the area.

Heavy rains and flooding have severely impacted the Gedo region in recent weeks, with Bardhere  district being one of the hardest hit areas.

Homes have been destroyed, infrastructure damaged, and thousands of people displaced.

Ahmed Madobe’s administration had sent the aid via a plane to provide much-needed relief, but  local authorities in Bardhere district reportedly denied permission for the plane to land without  specifying any reasons.

The refusal to allow the aid plane to land has raised concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian  crisis in Bardhere district, with people urgently needing food, clean water, shelter, and medical  assistance.

Ahmed Madobe’s administration has expressed disappointment and frustration over the refusal and  called for cooperation and coordination among all stakeholders to ensure that humanitarian  assistance reaches those in need in Bardhere district and other flood-affected areas in Gedo region.

Local officials in Bardhere district have not provided any specific reasons for denying permission for  the aid plane to land, but humanitarian organizations operating in the region have called for  immediate action to address the situation and provide much-needed assistance to the affected  population.

As the situation in Bardhere district continues to deteriorate, there are concerns about the well being of vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly as aid agencies are urging all  parties to prioritize the needs of the affected population and ensure that aid reaches those in need  without further delay.

The humanitarian crisis in Gedo region, including Bardhere district, underscores the need for  coordinated efforts among local and regional authorities, humanitarian organizations, and other  stakeholders to provide timely and effective assistance to those affected by the floods.
