Nairobi, Kenya – The former Kenyan Prime Minister and opposition leader Raila Odinga has claimed that his life is in danger after an alleged assassination attempt on his convoy.
Odinga says he was directly shot at seven times as his convoy made its way to Karen via the Southern Bypass in the capital, Nairobi.
According to Odinga, the attack occurred on the evening of March 29th, 2023. He alleges that his convoy was ambushed by unknown assailants who opened fire on his car.
Odinga says that he and his security detail narrowly escaped the attack, but he is deeply concerned about his safety going forward.
Odinga, who is the leader of the opposition party, Azimio has been a vocal critic of the current Kenyan government and has led recent protests against high living costs.
He has been a key figure in Kenyan politics for decades and has run for president several times.
His claims of an assassination attempt come at a time of heightened political tension in the country amid weekly protests by opposition supporters
The Kenyan government has yet to respond to Odinga’s claims.
The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of opposition leaders in Kenya.
