Nairobi, Kenya (Somalistandard) – The prospect of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona has once again made headlines, following comments made by the club’s vice-president, Rafael Yuste. Yuste confirmed on Friday that the Spanish giants have been in touch with Messi’s representatives, with the aim of bringing the superstar back to the Camp Nou.

Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after the club was unable to offer him a new deal due to financial difficulties.

He subsequently signed for Paris Saint-Germain, where he has been in impressive form this season. However, with his contract set to expire this summer, rumors have been rife that he could be set for a return to his former club.

Speaking at a press conference, Yuste expressed his admiration for Messi and his desire to see him back in a Barcelona shirt. “Leo and his family know the affection I have for them,” he said. “I participated in the negotiations which unfortunately did not lead to a certain result. I’ve always had and I have this thorn in my side that Leo couldn’t continue at our club. Messi knows how much we appreciate him. I would love for him to come back. We’re in contact, of course, with them.”

Messi enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Barcelona, winning numerous titles and establishing himself as one of the greatest players of all time. His potential return would undoubtedly be a major boost for the club, who have struggled to replicate their previous success in recent years.

However, any deal to bring Messi back to Barcelona is likely to be complex, given the financial implications involved. It remains to be seen whether the two parties will be able to reach an agreement, but for now, fans of the Catalan club will no doubt be eagerly awaiting any further developments.
