(Somalistandard) – Liverpool bounced back from a winless streak with a resounding victory against Leeds United, securing a 6-1 win in a Premier League showdown.
Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota were the stars of the match, each scoring twice to help Liverpool claim their first league win in five games.
The game started with Trent Alexander-Arnold setting up Cody Gakpo for the opener, although there were controversial claims of handball that went unpunished by the referee and VAR. Salah then doubled Liverpool’s lead with a clinical finish from an angle, putting the visitors in control.
Leeds managed to pull one back after the break when Luis Sinisterra capitalized on a mistake by Ibrahima Konate to score a clever chip past Alisson. However, Liverpool quickly regained their dominance as Jota found the back of the net with a neat finish, his first goal since April 2022.
Salah continued his impressive performance by scoring his second goal of the game, capping off a superb team move. Jota also grabbed his second goal with a well-placed header from a Jordan Henderson cross. Substitute Darwin Nunez joined in on the action, completing the rout with a side foot finish.
In addition to the impressive victory, Liverpool fans were thrilled to see the return of Luis Diaz, who made his first appearance since October as a late substitute.
Despite the win, Liverpool remains in eighth place in the Premier League table, one point behind Brighton in seventh and two points behind Aston Villa in sixth. However, the emphatic victory against Leeds has given them renewed hope for a strong finish to the season as they continue to chase European qualification.
