Mogadishu (Somalistandard) – The Commander of the 9th Division of the Gorgor Commandos, has delivered a moving speech to the troops under his command who are stationed on the frontline in the battle against the notorious terrorist group Al-Shabaab in the Middle Shabelle region on Wednesday.
During a speech for his troops on Wednesday, the young commander, Hurdaye recounted a compelling story about a man who had expressed a desire to carry out a suicide bombing, but was eventually apprehended before he could execute his deadly plan.
The man was asked if he prayed, to which he admitted that he did not, but expressed a longing to do so.
Commander Hurdaye used this anecdote to highlight the irony of someone willing to take innocent lives in the name of Allah, yet not adhering to the basic teachings of Islam, such as prayer.
“Why does he want to kill you, someone who doesn’t even pray to God?” questioned Commander Hurdaye passionately, emphasizing the warped ideology of extremist groups like Al-Shabaab.
The commander went on to urge his troops to fear Allah and to fulfill their obligation to perform the obligatory prayers in Islam.
He stressed that religion, when practiced with a pure heart and followed sincerely, is akin to a science.
“Pray for God’s sake, pray to become a pious Muslim,” he implored, emphasizing the importance of prayer in Islam as a means of fostering inner piety and righteousness.
In addition to his spiritual message, the officer also addressed the issue of drug addiction among the young soldiers and sternly warned against the use of mind-altering substances and urged his troops to give up any addiction to drugs.
“We are telling you that those who complain should be treated with compassion and not harmed. Spare them and leave them alone,” he emphasized, showing concern for the well-being of his troops and advocating for a compassionate approach to those who may be struggling.
The officer’s powerful speech struck a chord with the troops, motivating them to stay resolute in their fight against Al-Shabaab and to uphold the principles of their faith.
His words serve as a reminder of the importance of religious teachings, compassion, and moral integrity in the face of extremism and adversity.
